Wisdom teeth sometimes become a kind of a show-and-tell item for many teenagers (and a few adults), but extracting them could be in your best interest if you’ve had them erupt. Here are a few reasons why you should think about having your completely- or partially-erupted wisdom teeth taken out at our office:
Even if wisdom teeth themselves are healthy, they can affect your other teeth. Otherwise healthy teeth can be hurt by impacted wisdom teeth pushing against them, eventually causing chips and/or crowding.
The most widespread case of erupted wisdom teeth is that they become infected and the neighboring gums inflamed because they are too difficult to get to with a toothbrush. And when that wearing down isn’t stopped, it can grow into gum disease, which can affect the neighboring pearly whites and gums as well as central organs outside of the oral cavity.
Finally, wisdom teeth can lead to the formation of liquid-filled cysts and tumors near the bottom of the pearly whites, resulting in destruction to the bone and the jaw as well as the pearly whites and nerves.
